A Grell Tale

We are so glad you have taken time to check in on our lives. First and foremost, God is the author of this story. Every thing we do, say, and have is His.
Jared and I have been together since 1998, and married since 2003. After four long years of trusting God, he blessed us on August 1, 2009. Balen James is the most "perfect-for-us" little man in the world! We LOVE being parents and just can't get enough of him.
I love to spend time sharing our story with you, and I truly enjoy getting to hear your comments as well! We hope you enjoy watching our family grow. Thanks for stopping by.

5 Months

This fifth month has definitely been the month of most change for Balen. While we were eating Christmas dinner, watching Balen grab salad off of Jared's plate, Aunt Paige said "he's a person." We love watching his little personality develop. Big accomplishments for this month have been: eating food, putting himself to sleep, learning to sit, rolling over on the floor, holding bottle, getting his first tooth, discovering his tootsies, and becoming so much more active with his toys. Our first (white) Christmas together as a family was very special. We got to celebrate the births of two special little babies that have changed our lives forever! (Not that I'm comparing my son to Baby Jesus, he's just pretty special to us!!) :)

It's me again Margaret

Mom has about 27 other things she should be doing right now...but...she is obsessed with taking pictures of every new big boy thing I do!

Christmas 2009

Balen had a great first WHITE Christmas with his family! Christmas Eve was spent with my Mom and Dad. We couldn't make it home that night so we spent the night and came home Christmas morning. After getting stuck in the snow, twice, we got to enjoy the day with Jared's side of the family. All of the pretty snow caused a few changes in the plans and caused us to miss seeing a lot of my family. I hope everyone had a very special Christmas.

Mom who??

Well...looks like I'm no longer needed around here. Balen is slowly phasing me out! He hasn't mastered any of these things to perfection, but this month has been quite a busy month for him. He is learning to eat, sit up, hold his own bottle, turn pages in his books, put himself to sleep, and he got his first tooth. If a man can do those things why does he need ol' Ma!!

Too bad little man, you can't get rid of me that easy! Who would change your poopy pants, cuddle and play with you, give you 9,000 kisses a day, and remind you how special you are???

Kitty Kitty

I found these cute pictures on my computer this morning! They must have had some secret father/son/cat bonding time. I am still trying to figure out where I was when Daddy took him out to the barn???

Tucker

I love that my family says I Love You.
I love that my family has deep roots.
I love that my family enjoys each other.
I love that my parents are full of integrity.
I love that they never drank or cussed in our home.
I love that they made us go to church.
I love that we talk about things most families don't.
I love that my dad makes me feel like a princess.
I love that my brothers do too.
I love that we have always had "deep family pow-wows" when things need discussed.
I love that if Justin is involved in these talks they can go on for hours!
I love that Josh can make us all laugh.
I love that he can also preach us a good sermon!
I love that we have been through so much together and still stand.
I love that I bought my dad a CD tower one year for Christmas.
I love that he thought it was the dumbest gift he ever received!
I love that my mom can be a little ditsy, and that I can be just like her.
I love that my mom can be so powerful, and hope that I can be just like her.
I love that my family loves music.
I love that my family prays.
I love that my parents never gave up.
I love that we don't yell and scream at each other.
I love that there was no abuse.
I love that we have spent many nights sleeping on hospital floors.
I love that we are all still here.
I love the family I grew up in.

Pearl Dog

This is our dog that doesn't stay, play, eat, sleep, or cause trouble here!?!
Apparently our house isn't as good as Mark and Terrie's! Paige took this today. Looks like they were getting a lot accomplished! Keep up the good work Pearl...just like me, always in the right place at the right time! Maybe that's just called "in the way"???

Little Things

Everytime I see a pair of baby shoes on the floor it makes me cry. They always remind me how much I am blessed. I learned at a young age that life if precious. People are here one day and can be gone the next.
Sometimes we get caught up in "living" and don't take time to live.
As Christmas approaches, I can't help to think about all of the mothers who haven't figured it out yet, or maybe they have just forgotten. It's all around us. Nagging, complaining, abuse, and yelling.
As a teacher I have seen firsthand that so many kids never get a chance to know what love is. Even more sad, they never get to experience the Father's unconditional love.
These snapshots of life are the things I love. These are things I would miss if my Little Man was gone one day. They are things I see every single day, but so often take for granted.
Learn to love the little messes in your home, all the imperfections and people's quirks. Your wife yapping on the phone, your husband snoring too loud, your son's stinky socks and muddy shoes, your daughter's toys strung across the house.
I challenge you to look around your house and become aware of all the little things that represent the people you love. Begin to enjoy and appreciate them while they are there.

Merry Christmas from Balen

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.

4 Month stats!

This post is really just for me to keep track of my growing boy! He had his 4 month appointment today. He is 26 inches long and weighs 15 pounds 14 ounces. This puts him in the 75% for both. We are also adding applesauce to his menu along with cereal. Mmmm..tasty!

Laundry Day

Balen in a basket! Little Man loves to ride up and down the stairs in the laundry while I am trying to get something done around here. I'm not sure how much longer this will continue??? He's getting heavier everyday! It's a good workout.

Mmm..Cereal

Balen Bear is 4 months old! We are experimenting with cereal this week. He has done well. Can't believe how fast he is growing.
