Dave bases his class on 7 Baby Steps that will help you get out of the mess you have created! Step 1: $1000 in an emergency fund. Step 2: Pay off all debt except the house utilizing the debt snowball. Step 3: 3 to 6 months expenses in savings. Step 4: Invest 15% of your household income into Roth IRA's and pre-tax retirement plans. Step 5: College funding. Step 6: Pay off your home early. Step 7: Build wealth and GIVE! He constantly reminds you to "Live like no one else, so that later you can LIVE like no one else." Learn to delay pleasure now. Make a plan, and stick to it.
We are currently working on our baby steps and have began living on a strict monthly budget using the envelope system. It is so worth all the time we put into it each month. I don't ever have to wonder if I am spending money we don't have or wonder where all of our money went. We have the freedom to decide what we want to spend in each area and we stick to it!
We have enjoyed this class so much that Jared just began teaching the youth version to our High Schoolers on Wednesday nights. He is doing an awesome job and it is a blessing to see him use the gifts God has given him to change peoples lives. I highly recommend this class to anyone and everyone. They have them all over or you can even get people together and start your own.
If you would like more information or have any questions please ask! We are happy to share with you how God is working in our family and finances.

ReplyDeleteCongrats on going thru FPU! My hubby and I went thru this as well with our Life Group from church at the end of 2008. I couldn't agree more with your blog post! This has changed our lives in sooooo many ways! I think every married couple should go thru this class, young or old. Such a blessing! Dave Ramsey has taught us so much!
