A Grell Tale

We are so glad you have taken time to check in on our lives. First and foremost, God is the author of this story. Every thing we do, say, and have is His.
Jared and I have been together since 1998, and married since 2003. After four long years of trusting God, he blessed us on August 1, 2009. Balen James is the most "perfect-for-us" little man in the world! We LOVE being parents and just can't get enough of him.
I love to spend time sharing our story with you, and I truly enjoy getting to hear your comments as well! We hope you enjoy watching our family grow. Thanks for stopping by.

Resurrection Cookies

My friend forwarded this to me the other day. I haven't tried it, but it looks like fun for those of you with small kids. Let me know how it goes!
(Read the whole recipe before beginning. Try to do together Saturday night before Easter Sunday.)

Ingredients:
1 c. whole pecans
3 egg whites
1 c. sugar
1 t. vinegar
pinch salt

Preheat oven to 300 degrees

Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested He was beaten by the Roman soldiers.
Read John 19:1-3

Let child smell the vinegar. Put 1 t. into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross. He was given vinegar to drink.
Read John 19:28-30

Add egg whites to the vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life.
John 10:10-11

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin.
Read Luke 23:27

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because he loves us. He wants us to know and belong to HIm.
Read Psalms 34:8 and John 3:16

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 11-15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus.
Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by t. onto waxed paper-covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid.
Read Matthew 27:65-66

Put cookie sheet in the oven. Close the door and turn the oven off. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed.
Read Matthew 27:65-66

GO TO BED

Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed.
Read John 16:20-22

On Resurrection morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Resurrection Day, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty.
Read Matthew 28:1-9 HE HAS RISEN! HALLELUJAH

Crockpot Fajitas

Holy Fajitas Batman! I know I need to be a little more original on my posts, but I think these have become one of my new favorite foods. They are just too good to not share.

3 to 4 lb roast
1 pkg. chili seasoning
2 c. pinto beans (uncooked)
1 can green chiles, chopped
2 cans Ro-Tel tomatoes, chopped
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 pkg. flour tortillas

Optional Toppings: cheese, sour cream, picante sauce

Season the roast with chili seasoning and place in crockpot. Pour the pinto beans around the roast. Add the green chiles, tomatoes, cream of mushroom soup, and 1/2 can of water. Do not add any more water; the beans will cook in the juice from the roast. Cook for 7 to 8 hours or until roast shreds easily. Stir to blend roast and beans. Serve on warm flour tortillas and garnish with optional items of your preference.

Makes 10 to 12 fajita wraps.

FOOD! Yum!

The great Arnold Schwarzenegger once said "I love Thanksgiving turkey...it's the only time in Los Angeles that you see natural breats." Well, maybe that wasn't totally appropriate, but it was funny!

The holiday's are such a special time and I just can't get enough of them! We all have our family traditions and foods that we just can't live without. Now it's time to share! For all of you who have never posted, now is the time to figure it out! Tell us your favorite Family Thanksgiving Dish, and if you feel the need to share the recipe, share away!

I always look forward to the Cinnamon Apple Jello and Aunt Peg's deviled eggs! Yummy!

French's Crunchy Onion Chicken

What kind of Mommy Blogger would I be if I didn't throw in a recipe every once in a while??

2 c. French's French Fried Onions
2 tbsp. flour
4 boneless chicken breasts
1 egg, beaten

Crush french fried onions with flour in plastic bag.
Dip chicken into egg; then coat in onion crumbs.
Bake 20 minutes at 400 until cooked through.

I HATE to cook things with lots of weird ingredients. This is VERY easy and pretty tasty!
